A long time ago I heard a story about a sapper shovel, which in Soviet times was produced by a munitions factory in Kiev. Recently I accidentally found the same shovel. It very compact and easy to carry, store and use. The shovel is a multifunctional tool that combines a shovel, a saw and an ax.
However the shovel has another feature – a wrench hole. Does this hole serve to reduce a weight of the shovel? I don’t think so. Why not a few holes of different sizes? Why this size wrench, but not another?
From the history I heard that this shovel thoughtlessly copied from the US military shovel. A hole wrench originally intended for someone US military rifle.
There are many types of shovels, which exist like multitools on markets. Most of them nowadays are patented and made in China.
